During Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship, the Nazi regime murdered over 6 million people. During Stalin’s Communist regime in the Soviet Union as many, or perhaps even more people were executed. This week’s discussion requires you to compare Nazi-fascist aims with Soviet-communist goals. Why do you think we tend to focus more on the Holocaust than on the Soviet’s mass executions? Were the aims of these two leaders different? If so, explain how. Finally, in your educated opinion, what motivated ordinary men and women to carry out or to support such orders?
