Non Traditional Learning

Once you are done reading, you can decide what “angle” you’d like to take on this short piece of writing. You are going to develop an ARGUMENT based off of these readings. For example, maybe you want to claim that being a non-traditional student is the best way to do college. Maybe you want to claim that no one should ever consider being a non-traditional student, and instead, people should attend college right out of high school. Maybe you want to claim that being a non-traditional student is much harder than being a traditional one. Maybe you think it is way easier. Either way, this is your claim, and your claim becomes your thesis statement for your piece of writing.

Next, you should come up with TWO solid reasons that your opinion is correct. These two reasons will become topic sentences for the two body paragraphs. Additionally, these two reasons should not say the same thing in 2 different ways–just as we discussed in previous essays.

Here is an example from an entirely different topic:

Claim/Thesis: Students should go to vocational school and skip traditional college altogether.

Topic Sentence #1: Vocational schooling requires a much shorter time commitment for students, and as a result, they can move on to their chosen career much more quickly.

Topic Sentence #2: Careers obtained via vocational school usually earn a salary equivalent to graduates from traditional college; oftentimes, they even make more money.

So your writing piece should look like this:

Intro paragraph about the choices that seniors in high school have regarding further education. Thesis statement

Body Paragraph #1: Topic sentence; explanation of topic sentence; integration of quotes for support; tie to thesis.

Body Paragraph #2: Topic sentence; explanation of topic sentence; integration of quotes for support; tie to thesis.

Conclusion: what is the outcome for your audience? How do your reasons impact the audience’s life going forward?

You will have 4 total paragraphs.

You should use all 3 sources and cite them properly. DO NOT SUMMARIZE THE SOURCES!

You should also create a Works Cited page.

I am assuming this will be about 2 pages of essay in length–please do not go over three pages!

Please use paperrater.com and Grammaly. High-quality writing is expected!
