For this assignment, you will research and write a paper on one historic event — not a person or place or object. Your essay will summarize the historic event, then discuss its impact on its own time and its influence on the present (how it still affects us today). Typically, two pages summarizes the event, and one page explains its importance, then and now.
For this paper, you will need to use at least one primary source and one secondary source, but you should end up with 3 to 5 sources total. A primary source is one that was created at or near the time of an event, often by an eye-witness or someone directly involved in the event. A secondary source is one that was written long after the event, created by someone not involved in the event. This is often a historians writing about an event.
Your history research paper should be at least three pages long, not including the bibliography or pictures/graphics included. It should include a bibliography and footnotes. This paper will be written using Chicago Manual Style (CMS). If you include photographs or graphics (charts, tables, maps, diagrams, etc.), don’t forget to cite them, then include the sources in your bibliography. Graphics come after the paper but before the bibliography.
