WRITE a poem, essay, or stream of consciousness piece about the following:
1) How someone else’s single story about you (could be family, friends, society) was imposed on you.
(Please write upon: how I became a single mother at the age of 18, how people viewed me in a negative way. How people said I ruined my life because I made the decision to be a mother. And became a mother of two before the age of 21).
In other words, a way in which you feel like you were misunderstood in relation to one or more aspects of your social identity (nationality, gender, sexuality, race, immigrations status, etc).
(Please write upon: Understandably I should have made a better decision or been smarter about what I was doing but becoming a mother at a young age is not the end of the world. A bit of background information: I am a Latina who came from immigrant parents- mother from Dominican Republic, father- from Nicaragua. They came to the US in their pre-teens.)
2) What is your Real Story? What is the truth about your identity? You can refer to one aspect or multiple aspects.
