Please reply to my classmate. must have a minimum of 150 words and one additional non-text citation and reference. Read their paper below and add to their researchMyths about AgingIt is no surprise with all the advances in medical technology and the awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle that people are living longer than ever before. It is projected that by the year 2060 the number of adults aged 65 and older will more then double from 46 million to 98 million. It will mean that the number of older adults will outnumber the amount of children under the age of 5 for the first time in history. One in every four older adults will live past the age of 90 and one in ten will live past the age of 95. The average life expectancy of the average male is 84.3 and the average life expectancy of the average female is 86.6 years old.In this paper explore some of the common misconceptions associated with older population. A big myth among this age group is that your cognition and mental health decline, while the reality is that these changes are very minimal and do not significantly impact daily functioning. Older adults are capable of learning new skills although it may take a bit longer. While short term memory may decline with the aging process long term memory will decline less with aging. The older adult’s reaction time will decrease, and they will be slower at problem solving, however they are able to perform better than their younger peers on intelligence tests that rely on experience and accumulated knowledge. The prevalence of mental health issues is lower in older adults, personality traits remain stable, and creativity and wisdom tend to blossom. The natural process of aging leads to wear and tear on the body, but it doesn’t mean that all older adults are frail and weak. It is possible to live a healthy active life even into the later years of life. Only five percent of our older population live in nursing homes and requires an extensive amount of help with everyday living. Many older adults still engage in a very active life they volunteer, work, and even act as caregivers to other family members in need. Engaging in regular social activities, forming bonds and relationships, and having a supportive and caring social circle can help the older adult be healthier both mentally and physically. The last myth I would like to explore Is that the older adult is no longer capable of being intimate or that they are no longer interested in being intimate. While the frequency of intimacy may decline with older age many older individuals continue to have a fulfilling sex life. The benefits of a healthy sex life increase overall mood, help with sleeping, lower levels of stress and anxiety, and help achieve a closer more satisfying relationship with you partner.American Psychology Association.
