Expanded & Improved Medicare For All Act

RE: H.R.676 – Expanded & Improved Medicare For All Act Dear Senator Munoz: We are nursing students from City-Wide Colleges of Chicago: Malcolm X School of Nursing. We are in our final year and have researched effective ways of providing health services to all individuals. We believe that free health coverage should be accessible to everyone in the United States. Without health coverage, many people wouldnt be able to afford hospital bills and expensive medication that come with many health problems. As a result of not seeking care because of the high cost, health problems that could have been prevented in the first place can escalate to emergency room visits, requiring critical and expensive care. As future nurses, this issue hits close home for us as we desire to provide the best of care to all individuals. We see the issues of not having the ability to pay for much needed services upfront as we provide care to patients each day. Because of this, we are advocating heavily for H.R. 676, Expanded & Improved Medicare For All Act, which would provide coverage judiciously, not just for those who can afford to pay. Medicare which has been established since 1965, has provided a vast array of medical services for certain groups of the people. If expanded in the manner this legislation is calling for, it can be an effective vehicle in ensuring that not only basic medical care is provided, but preventative care as well, which can greatly reduce the overall burden of health care. Also, there is a good opportunity for Medicare to use its bargaining power to negotiate lowering the cost of pharmaceuticals. As a result, drug company profits would likely fall, ensuring those who need medications are taken care of. We see this legislation as a very effective means of providing more medical services to a wider population of people who desperately need services. It is our hope that you would support this vital piece of legislature and we hope to get a response from you soon.
